IN SUPPORT OF
WHOLENESS
Meet Charlene Wolfe of Immaculate Perceptions
An interview
by: Glenda Rader Jensen
One of
my favorite things is sharing with people who are coming
to wholeness within themselves and have chosen to support
others in their growth-work.
Charlene
Wolfe has been involved in the field of Self-Realization
since 1985. She created Immaculate Perceptions in 1989
as a center dedicated to spiritual growth through the integration
of the physical with the esoteric. Here, she offers
intuitive-touch-healing work along with a variety of classes
supporting growth and healing.
She sees
her purpose as supporting Unification on a global scale. Global
Unification can happen through understanding ourselves first. As
she explains it, “We can then begin to see the grand
design of all creation. We realize the space we hold
within the perfect balance of the Whole and remember contributions
we have committed to sharing with humanity.” In
her mind, there is no one upon earth who has come here with
nothing to share. Everyone has a purpose and life challenges
unique to that individual.
The
following conversation offers insight into Charlene and
her work.
Winds:
What is the purpose of your center?
Charlene: Immaculate Perceptions is really multifaceted
in that it serves some minor purposes within the overall
purpose. The large, complete purpose of whole-being
is to serve in the area of healing and education. What
I mean by this is enabling others to heal themselves through
realizing that there is no separation. Our heredity
is Divine. There is no place where God ends and we
begin. There is nothing to depend on external to ourselves
for our empowerment, our completeness, or our wholeness in
any way whatsoever.
I also
serve to show that there is only an appearance of separation
between ourselves and anyone else. We are individuated
aspects of the One-Consciousness that has brought everything
forth from Itself. We express this consciousness through
form, which gives the appearance of separation. At
the core of our being we are spirit in essence. In
this essence there is no separation. We are spiritual
beings having a human experience rather than human beings
striving to have a spiritual experience.
When our
focus is on our spiritual identity we realize that we are
dependent on nothing but the source. This is the ever-present
power available to us from the very center of our being. I
believe this is what Jesus meant when he said the Kingdom
of Heaven is within.
Winds: What changes can be expected as we move into
this inner awareness of wholeness and connectedness?
Charlene: Well,
one of the first things to happen as we become more conscious
is the recognition that we have a greater responsibility
and accountability for our actions. When we realize
this greater responsibility and accountability, we are more
prone to think before we act. As we become more conscious,
we become aware that we have an infinite number of choices
available to us. So, we’re no longer very quick
to grab the first on only choice we allow ourselves to see.
When we
recognize that we are not at the effect of our world, when
we realize that we have more choices available to us, we
begin to stop reacting to life. We begin to relax. We
begin to settle back and allow ourselves to respond. When
we begin to respond, we become careful co-creators of our
life-experience.
When we
react, we are coming from a base of fear. It is an
automatic action. There is no foresight or forethought. It
is a habit based on past conditioning. To react is
to re-enact.
To respond
is to realize that there is a brief moment when we can choose
whether we wish to respond or react. To respond is
empowering because we become aware that we have several choices. We
can see the possible consequences of each choice and we then
choose that which serves us in the highest way possible.
Winds: What classes or experiences do you offer at
Immaculate Perceptions that help us choose to respond.
Charlene: I
offer a type of bodywork that I call intuitive touch, nurturing
touch. This experience is an opportunity to see the
body as a representative of the subconscious mind.
When we’re
growing up, we take the energy attached to our life-experiences
and store them in the body. For example, we may get
the message that it is not appropriate to feel anger when
we are violated. Our reaction will be to deny it and
hold it in the body. We feel guilty for experiencing
the anger. We continue to deny until we no longer feel.
Eventually,
we get the message so deeply encoded in our cells that we
are here simply to be violated and we have no right to be
angry if we are violated. Violation becomes a way of
life. Our denial acts like a magnet repeatedly attracting
the experience of violation.
This is
the space where disease is created. Disease is a direct
result of contradiction between our higher (spiritual) and
our lower (physical and emotional) nature. The point
of contradiction is the difference between expressing how
we came here to express and shutting down that expression
due to the messages of unacceptability. In that point
of contradiction and stress, an environment for disease is
created.
Winds: You’re
saying that changing our mind about our acceptability and
allowing ourselves the free expression we originally intended
for ourselves will release the disease. Correct?
Charlene: Deciding
to change our mind is one of the steps. However, just
changing our mind doesn’t always serve. There
has to be something else. There must be a feeling,
a desire to go along with it. This feeling or desire,
plus appropriate action and vision, equals change.
Just using
affirmations is not enough. This acknowledges only
the mental aspect and ignores the heart, which is the Mother
aspect of the Divine. Just “thinking” ourselves
whole is not a balanced approach to healing. The heart
and mind must be fully integrated to create positive change.
Immaculate
Perceptions also offers classes in human empowerment. The
fundamental key to empowerment is recognizing that our power
is internal rather than external. A class entitled “The
Twelve Seats of Consciousness” focuses on the glandular
centers of the body. These centers do have specific
ego identifications.
For example,
we usually take fear into the liver and anger into the adrenals. In
the class, we identify where they are holding different energy
attachments in the body and which organs are involved.
Once the
blocks are identified, we can work on releasing them. Participants
are given tools such as reading materials, affirmations,
and meditation tapes to continue the releasing process. We
also work on releasing in the moment during the body sessions.
One of
my seminars, titled Meta-Energetics™, explains where
spirituality and science validate one another. We discuss
the Chakra system and how it works in correlation with the
glandular system.
I use symbolism
and allegory from the Bible and ancient mystery teachings
explaining their relevancy today. I demonstrate where
religion and spirituality really aren’t saying anything
different. I focus on the idea of One God. There
is only One, not different Gods for different beliefs. That
One being present in everything, every where present. Everywhere
present must include ourselves.
Winds: What
can people expect as they work with you?
Charlene: First
of all, we talk and determine which approach would best serve
the individual – Life Path Counseling ™ or Body
Energetics™. With Life Path Counseling, we look
at limiting attitudes, perceptions, and beliefs that stand
between the individuals and what they want to achieve. We
begin to shift the limiting perception to one of greater
possibility – through changing ones’ attitudes
about themselves and their life experiences.
Body-Energetics,
on the other hand, is not just body work. It is intuitive/nurturing
touch. I can sense where the physical body is not utilizing
energy. I work with the Light Body clearing the frequencies
of the sub-energies that contribute to the whole energy pattern
of the individual. I balance the energy pattern with
the form.
This process
encourages integration of all aspects of the individual. As
the Light frequencies blend into harmony, the form (the physical
body) must follow. Then there is physical and/or emotional
release or processing which leads to release.
We look
at how to transform attitudes and beliefs during the session
in a way that encourages expanded awareness. This clears
and integrates the mental aspect of the individual.
I usually
encourage individuals to commit to more than one session
because expanding consciousness is an unfolding process,
not an event. I prefer working with those who are sincere
and willing to do whatever inner process is necessary to
achieve growth.
When I
accept a client, I expect that client to utilize the tools
I share with them to the fullest degree in their everyday
life. I hesitate in working with those who want me
to “wave a magic wand” and make it “all
better.” I feel they really want to place themselves
at the absolute effect of me. If not me, someone else. This
does not serve to empower. When we place ourselves
at the absolute effect of someone else, we relinquish personal
responsibility for ourselves and our growth. We no
longer question and actively seek answers. We are not
being a conscious participant in our transformational process.
With this
in mind, I do not claim that I can change anyone. I
can, however, effect change through providing guidance and
spiritual tools. The individual must actively utilize
the tools, question and seek answers as part of their “personal
program.” Those who come to me are in one phase
or another of “Spiritual Recovery” – recovering
the memory of their Divine Heredity.
Winds: How
did you come to recognize wholeness within yourself and begin
expressing it?
Charlene: First
of all, I had to realize that I was experiencing a reality
based upon the belief that I was not whole. I had to
look at everything that stood in the way of myself and my
recognition that I am whole. I had to look at where
I believed myself to be a product of my past and where my
whole reality was based on my past experiences. I believed
myself to be the sum total of those experiences and nothing
more. I looked at where I was holding attachment to
anger and blame, feeling helpless, and holding fears. I
had to see where I held a belief that I was here to be victimized
and at the effect of my world. I did my work. I
journaled, meditated, prayed, took classes, attended seminars,
and put all the pieces together to realize that I was OK. Now
I know that my past experiences have tempered me and brought
me to where I am today. They contributed to who I am,
but are not all that I am.
I’ve
arrived at the realization that areas reflecting shadows
within myself, or areas that needed healing, are gifts. They
are gifts in disguise that lead me to a greater understanding
of myself.
I use the
experience that I’ve had in my own healing process
to encourage growth in others and I continue to grow in each
moment. Courage is very important. It is courageous
to take those steps. We feel very vulnerable when we
begin to own that: yes, we are angry; yes, we have judgments;
yes, we hold blame; yes, we have guilt. I enable people
in finding that place of courage within themselves to do
this work consciously. I help them to love themselves
wherever they may be in their life process.
Winds: What would you say about the issue of facilitators
taking advantage of that vulnerability for money and profit? Where
can someone within themselves know what is truly a safe place
for their growth work? What signals can they recognize
within themselves?
Charlene: Truth
rings true in the heart. There are certain signals
we feel. We actually have physical responses when we’re
confronted with non-truth. One of those signals is
that so-called “gut feeling.” The feeling
we get when we later say, “I knew better. I should
have listened to that!” It strikes a chord in
the solar plexus causing agitation.
I believe
that when we hear non-truth, we don’t want to remain
in its presence. If we are in tune with our spiritual
nature, we realize our intuition is the voice of the Mother
aspect of God. This is present for us beneath the mental
aspect of who we are. To hear our “inner voice,” we
must quiet our thoughts. Then we are aware of what
the body is saying. There is power in blending both
reason and intuition.
I don’t
believe we need to pay a lot of money for spirituality. I
believe that even though Immaculate Perceptions accepts client
fees, donations, and tithing. These should be given
on a free-will basis, not as a requirement. It should
be a voluntary offering of the heart, given free of resentment,
and free of fear that one may not be able to pay the bills.
We have
an infinite amount of spiritual substance. But, until
we experience this awareness, we don’t have an understanding
that allows for our natural abundance. We need to learn
how to allow this experience into our lives.
One thing
I know is that I am absolutely supported by a loving universe. This
has been proven to me time and time again. My Divine
parents, The Mother and the Father, call it God, call it
the Source, put whatever name you need to put on it, absolutely
support me. I’ve found that everything I need
is provided for me.
There’s
no need for me to charge exorbitant sums of money for what
I do because the Universe absolutely supports me in this
purpose. It’s important to me to keep my services
very reasonable so that no one is denied the opportunity
for growth.
When facilitators
set high prices, there will always be people who feel they
will be denied the opportunity for spiritual education and
growth simply due to lack of funds.
Winds: Let’s
talk about the idea of wholeness vs. separation for a moment. One
of the things that people do resulting in separation is to
create labels. For example: spiritual, non-spiritual,
beautiful, ugly, rich, poor, fortunate, less fortunate, etc. The
substance of what we’re talking about here is beyond
labels. It’s an experience that is within each
individual no matter what background they’re coming
from. Everybody is whole and they can come to that
realization. Would you agree?
Charlene: I
believe that labeling encourages separation or the belief
in separation. I don’t look out there and see
one group as LDS, one group as Baptist, or this group as
Lutheran, that group as New Age. What I see is a global
family. I see one common Truth at the foundation of
every philosophy or teaching. Without exception! This
Truth is “There is only one God.”
Every religion
has come forth based on this spiritual truth. I believe
that religion is the outer form of spirituality. It
can be called the ritual. It is the form that a spiritual
truth has taken. Anything that has been given a form
is less than the pure essence of the truth. However,
the pure essence of the truth is in the form.
The important
thing is to look at is “Where is the focus?” Is
it on the form (the external) or is the focus on the Truth
(the internal)? If we keep our attention on the internal,
then the labeling becomes irrelevant. It’s insignificant. It
no longer has any place.
When we
can adhere to this focus, the so-called “Holy Wars” are
going to be over. There will just be one spiritual
family, recognizing that we can have agreement and cohesiveness
even within the diversity of the form. That's really
what my purpose is all about.
Winds: The
impact of what happens when one individual comes to wholeness
is like throwing a pebble into the lake. Maybe on the
surface a person won’t see that impact. It still
reaches out because of the very fact that everyone is connected. There
isn’t anything a person can do or think that does not
have impact. The value of the work you do is letting
people know they’re not alone in what they’re
experiencing.
Charlene: Yes,
it helps people to know this. That’s why I take
a different approach in my work. I share my growth
experiences with my clients. I’m very vulnerable
with my clients. I own my “stuff” very
publicly because I think people need to see spiritual growth
facilitators not just “talking the talk,” but
walking it.
I realized
the other day that I’m not done yet. I found
myself having to clear “stuff” at a deeper level
that I’d thought I’d finished three years ago. The
thing is though, we begin to call ourselves on our “stuff” faster.
For example,
we don’t stay in depression for three months anymore. We
may notice that a depression has come upon us and we’re
out of it in half a day or we’re out of it in a couple
of hours. We’re able to consciously direct our
focus to what is at the root of that depression.
Winds: Facing
our “stuff” takes a lot of courage. It
seems to be a lot easier to project, deny and repress our
feelings that to face them. Really, it isn’t,
but that’s the illusion.
Charlene: Yes,
and the subtleties of the illusion are incredible. I
have to check myself daily to be sure I’m clear. I
can’t stand “up there” as though I’ve
got the whole, absolute truth, because I don’t. I
believe that what I have is an expanding truth. In
each moment the truth expands to allow the understanding
in a greater degree.
With every
client that comes to me, I also look honestly at myself. I
serve them best by being willing to release within myself
what they mirror to me in their session. I find that
as I am willing to release, they experience release. This
is what I mean when I say there is no separation.
Winds: Recently,
there’s been a lot of talk about 11:11 energy and the “Wheels
within Wheels.” How does this fit in with the
work you’re doing?
Charlene: Any
time anything is taken from the pure essence of the teaching
and put into form, it is already once removed from the Truth. Although
ritual is important in that it helps us to remember Truth,
it is a metaphor or an allegory for the truth. The
Truth must not be forgotten.
There is
a lot of stir and excitement about the 11:11 energy. This
is very real and valid. There are memories that have
been keyed into our spiritual genetics that are being released
into our consciousness at this time.
However,
I hear a lot of talk that all we need do to experience this
remembrance is an act or form ritual of getting together
in groups and dancing in “Wheels within Wheels.” They
believe this outer action will deliver the shift in consciousness.
As an aspect
of this truth in the “Wheels within Wheels,” that
we need to focus our attention on at this time, are the wheels
of our own etheric energy system; our own Chakra system.
These etheric
energy systems are located in the field surrounding the body. Each
Chakra spins in a certain direction. Everything in
this world of form operates in polarity. The Chakras
operate in a male/female polarity in keeping with the male/female
aspect of Source. For example, the root, the heart,
and the crown Chakras contain a pulsing pattern like concentric
circles. All the Chakras are balanced within the male
and the female polarity. Each one has its own unique
pattern.
These are
the “wheels” where we will experience the shift
or the next phase of this transformational process which
will then be out-pictured in our lives. This transformational
process is really happening more as a result of our consciousness
rather than anything that’s happening in form. Everything
that happens in form is a result of our consciousness. We
have the ability to evolve our consciousness to affect outer
form, not the other way around.
Winds: So,
what you’re saying is that even as we become aware
of the 11:11 energy and the dances of the “Wheels within
Wheels,” it’s important to keep in mind that
this is only the external form of what’s really happening
on an inner level within our own chakra systems. That
the real changes take place within us and consequently will
be reflected within the physical which is the form.
Charlene: Yes,
the Universe unfolds through us. We are co-creating
with this infinite Source.
Winds: The
only reason for caution then in looking to the external is
that it disempowers ourselves. We’re taking the
power of the situation from the internal within us and putting
it on something outside of ourselves. We tend to believe
this outside thing is going to save us. This negates
our individual accountability and begins relying on “magic” to
make our lives better. This completely different than
spirituality which basically states that the Source of all
is within, never without.
Charlene: Yes,
because the focus has shifted from internal, which is connected
to Source, to the external. When we’re focused
on the internal we realize, first of all, there is no time. We
are already present in the space we are holding. The
power of who we are is only available in the now. When
we take something and externalize it, we immediately put
a time frame on it and say it is not present now, but will
be present in the future. We then lose the power of
the now.
We need
to remember that anytime we feel a desire to create a new
ritual it’s already happened in consciousness. When
we think we’re bringing anything about, what we’re
really doing is just waiting for the form to catch up with
where the consciousness already is.
Winds: You
have a new tape out called “Once Upon a Memory,” which
has been described as a new art form. What is this
new form?
Charlene: “Once
Upon a Memory” is an exciting project. It’s
painting with light through words and music. I don’t
think it’s ever been done before. Each side of
the sixty-minute tape is a beautifully woven tapestry of
music and metaphysical or spiritual poetry. The whole
idea behind the tape is to evoke memory of our Divine nature.
Side one
beings with a piece about being born in the Universal Womb
and side two ends with a piece about being born into the
form. Side one is more esoteric in its nature. Side
two is more mundane. It has pieces about children and
experiences we have in relationships or finding self-love. It’s
been very well received so far. It’s available
throughout five states as well as locally.
There have
been some interesting experiences reported as a result of
listening to the tape. For example, one woman called
to tell me she had been suffering with a physical condition
for quite some time. She listened to the tape and was
connected so deeply with memory of who she is and the power
and presence available to her, she experienced a release
from the condition.
Another
woman reported that she played the tape when she was with
her father who has Alzheimer’s. While the tape
was playing he became very clear and coherent in his communication. She
said that for the first time in a long time, he was absolutely
present with her.
I think
this tape has exciting potential. It does touch deeply
and it’s been my child for a long time. It was
held in the creative womb for five years. It’s
a joint effort with myself and an outstanding musician by
the name of Joel Pittsinger. When I read the poetry
to him, he had the music for side one in a week. He
just saw how to paint the words with music.
For the
J card, I went to an artist by the name of Kim Martinez who
sat and listened to side one after Joel and I had it together. Immediately,
she came up with the painting on the cover. This painting
says more than any idea I could have given her. When
she showed me what she was developing, any idea I had went
out the window because she had it! She created exactly
what I wanted and couldn’t have described in words. I
really want to give thanks to Joel and Kim for their creative
contributions to this project.
Winds: You
had talked about the possibility at some point of doing a
laser show combined with a live performance of the tape. How’s
this coming along?
Charlene: Yes,
I’m going to be approaching people in the California
area to create a short feature for this using special effects. I’d
like to see it in video format and marketed nationally.
I have
another project pending that I’m creating the poetry
for now. This will be a future release entitled Soulscapes. I
expect to be able to release that one by July.
Editor’s Note: All of Charlene’s work
is about self-awareness. That is where we find hope
of global harmony and unification. The inner (spiritual)
is reflected within the outer (the physical). We must
come to harmony within ourselves before we can experience
it in our world.
As she
so eloquently states, “When we have awareness of ourselves,
life is seen and experienced as the beautiful dance it has
always been. We have only to remember it is ‘We’ who
call the tune and choose the steps. Let it ‘Be’ a
dance of Love and Joy.”
